TEL AVIV, ISRAEL - NOVEMBER 13: A religious Jew reads the label on a bottle Tom, a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot from the Noga boutique winery at the Sommelier 2007 wine festival, the premier gathering for Israeli food and wine prefessionals November 13, 2007 in Tel Aviv. Wine was first produced in the Land of Israel in biblical times, and 125 years have past since Baron Edmond de Rothschild established Israel's modern wine industry in 1882. Today, consumption has risen to more than 7 litres per person per annum with both boutique wineries such as Margalit and large-scale producers such as Carmel Mizrahi and Golan Heights using innovative techniques, chemistry and Israel's diverse terroir to produce award-winning wines.
