Anfield boss set for move for Upton Park midfielder.
Liverpool are set to make an £8million bid for Scott Parker.
Anfield boss Roy Hodgson has pinpointed the West Ham midfielder as the man to replace Javier Mascherano, who is set to join Inter Milan in a £20m deal.
The Hammers hierarchy have insisted that Parker is the one player they will not sell this summer.
“Not at any price,” said chairman David Sullivan.
That has not stopped Tottenham declaring their interest.
And just as Liverpool allowed Spurs and Arsenal to make the running in the pursuit of Joe Cole, before stealing their thunder, they are poised to strike again with Parker. The key issue is whether West Ham will relax their tough stance. (Daily Mirror)
Roy Hodgson will do well to clinch a deal for West Ham midfielder Scott Parker given the stance adopted by the Hammers top brass over his importance to the Upton Park club. The former England international had a good season last term, which is saying something considering how bad as a club they performed.
The Liverpool boss seems resigned to losing his Argentine enforcer and will look to get as much money as possible from a likely Inter Milan move, however he seems likely to be given only a portion of that sale to re-invest in his squad and perhaps this is something the former Fulham boss will have to get used to.
Remember the club has already offloaded Yossi Benayoun and Albert Riera and are likely to see Emiliano Insua seal a move to Fiorentina in the coming week so therefore it would seem like money that has been recouped by sales may well be used predominantly to cover the massive debts Tom Hicks and George Gillett have accrued.
Scott Parker is a useful defensive midfielder but may well not be the kind of level of signing the Merseyside club’s supporters would have hoped for to replace a player of the likes of Javier Mascherano.
