Manchester City Given Dzeko Boost By International Teammate Pjanic

With the Eastlands outfit seemingly collecting strikers for the sake of it, VfL Wolfsburg hitman Edin Dzeko might have to get used to a place on the bench.

Edin Dzeko’s international team-mate Miralem Pjanic has told Soccernet that the Bosnia striker is very keen on joining Manchester City from Wolfsburg and that he will be a star in England.

“Edin has a very strong will to come to England, he is a top class player who should play in England,” Pjanic told Soccernet through an interpreter. “He is one of the best attackers. He has got a brilliant future and I think he will come to England.

“Manchester City are starting to build a very good team and he is interested in the challenge. At the end of the day it is going to happen. Edin does really want to go to Manchester City and Manchester is a great team.” (ESPN)

Remember last pre-season when there was all the talk of them having ten strikers on their books? According to Lyon midfielder Miralem Pjanic, they’re about to get another. Barcelona have clearly set a trend in randomly discussing other clubs’ players, and VfL Wolfsburg boss Steve McClaren will not be best pleased at this craze catching on elsewhere.

Wolfsburg thought they had secured Dzeko’s service for another year when the €40m release clause in his contract expired at the end of May, but the ongoing silence from the player has ensured speculation will continue to be rife.

As one of the most prolific strikers in Europe in recent years, and a strong physical presence to boot, Dzeko seems ideally suited to the English Premier League. However, should he move to Manchester City it will inevitably lead to questions about the futures of their other tall forwards: Roque Santa Cruz and Emmanuel Adebayor.
