Jun 21, 2010 - Rustenburg, South Africa - England training at their World Cup base in Royal Bafokeng..DAVID BECKHAM and WAYNE ROONEY.

Ricky Hatton has most definitely retired, for Wayne Rooney has a new boxer friend. WBA Heavyweight champion David Haye has revealed that the pair met in a hotel in Barbados this summer, and hit it off instantly.

Rooney has long been interested in boxing, but mostly uses the sport to curtail his much publicised aggression. Indeed, perhaps this could be the main reason his discipline appears to have improved in recent years.

At the age of 15 Rooney was told by his then club Everton that he had to choose between football and boxing, and with the England forward already close to the first team at the time, he elected for football.

While on holiday in the Caribbean, the Manchester United striker kicked back with Haye drinking rum until the early hours. Haye revealed to the News Of The World afterwards that Rooney said he would love to be a boxer, but would he be tempted to do so after he retires?

Perhaps just for fun to get rid of that built up aggression.
