Anfield outfit consider move for San Siro midfielder.
Liverpool in shock move for former Arsenal ace
Liverpool are interested in out-of-favour AC Milan midfielder Mathieu Flamini
Liverpool have been linked with AC Milan midfielder Mathieu Flamini as the search for Javier Mascherano’s replacement goes on.
The Frenchman, who used to ply his trade in the Premier League for Arsenal, is the latest of a plethora of central midfielders linked with a move to Anfield.
The takeover speculation surrounding the Reds will, more than likely, see many more players linked to the club as Roy Hodgson could be handed an open cheque-book.
However, he is likely to want to look at players who will not cost a bomb and Flamini could be that man.
And Flamini has refused to rule out a future return to England as his first team opportunities have been restricted at the San Siro. (Give Me Football – Official PFA Website)
This could be quite an intelligent bit of business. Roy Hodgson will know that despite Flamini insisting he would like to continue to fight for a first team place at the San Siro that the Frenchman only started 14 Serie A matches last term and as a result found himself even further from the national team picture. The arrival of a new boss at AC Milan could go either way for the former Arsenal man who had a terrific last season in the Premier League before angering the Gunners by running out his deal and leaving for nothing, despite statements to the contrary, a trick he pulled at Marseille prior to his arrival at the north London club.
The 26 year old would be a very decent replacement for Javier Mascherano who seems destined to leave Anfield and considering the battling AC Milan man would only cost around half the £25m they are reportedly due to receive for the Argentine, then it would represent a good bit of business by the Merseyside club.
