Jul 03, 2010 - Cape Town, South Africa - MARTIN DEMICHELIS (ARG) and MESUT OZIL (GER). Germany beat Argentina 4-0 to win their Quarter Final match during the FIFA World Cup 2010 at Green Point Stadium in Cape Town.

Manchester United have been given a boost in their bid to land Mesut Ozil while Hamburg’s Piotr Trochowski continues to be linked with the Old Trafford outfit.

The Red Devils have been tipped as potential suitors for 21-year-old Germany international Ozil following his blistering World Cup finals in South Africa.
Ozil has just 12 months remaining on his Werder Bremen contract and the club’s general manager Klaus Allofs insists they will consider any offers on the table.

“Should there be an offer on the table, we would consider it,” explained Allofs. “Everything is still possible at the moment.”

Meanwhile, Piotr Trochowski’s agent has refused to rule out a move for the Hamburg ace to Old Trafford before the transfer window closes.

The Poland-born Germany international has slipped down the club’s pecking order and has been tipped to move to the Premier League giants.

This source seems to suggest that Manchester United have a very real chance of snapping up either or indeed both of these German internationals. Mesut Ozil has been linked with a move away from Werder Bremen all summer long and his performances at the World Cup only increased this speculation and the likes of Real Madrid and Chelsea are also strongly linked with a move for the 21 year old.

Piotr Trochowski only played a cameo role in South Africa but is a very talented adaptable performer who could be a very useful addition to the Old Trafford squad. £16m is now Ozil’s valuation according to his Bundesliga employers but given the player only has a year left on his contract that may decrease depending on interest in the youngster.

A deal of around £26m would probably get both players and given that Chief Executive David Gill has been at pains to point out that Sir Alex Ferguson has funds available to him to spend then perhaps these signings are not totally unrealistic.
