Anfield want-away midfielder heading for La Liga move with former Arsenal man going the other way?
Barcelona are closing in on a deal for Javier Mascherano that would see Alexander Hleb move in the opposite direction to Liverpool.
Sources in Argentina claim an agreement between all parties has been all but agreed for a player who is desperate to leave Anfield for a new challenge abroad.
Trusted Argentine paper Ole says Mascherano will move for just £12million plus 29-year-old Hleb, who has failed to break into Barca’s star-studded team since moving from Arsenal two years ago. (Daily Mail)
Given that Javier Mascherano has pretty much burnt his Anfield bridges this is not a bad deal for all sides concerned. Roy Hodgson gets a very able attack minded midfielder and a decent chunk of chance to reinvest in his Liverpool squad and the Argentine battler gets his wish.
However his wish may turn out to be a big mistake as he will find it very hard to secure a regular first team start at the Nou Camp as Sergio Busquets is very much Pepe Guardiola’s go to guy in terms of defensive midfielder options, hence Yaya Toure leaving for Eastlands.
I am guessing that if the determined tackler does indeed find himself rotting on the Barca bench then Liverpool fans will feel that is ample reward for being so blatant in his desire to leave the club that helped put him on the footballing map.
