Manchester City’s Craig Bellamy has opted to join home-town club Cardiff City, skysports.com understands.

A host of clubs had been tracking the 31-year-old, who has already been told by City boss Roberto Mancini that he does not figure in his plans for this season.

Celtic and Tottenham had been leading the chase, whilst the likes of Fulham, Evertonand Bolton had also been linked.

However, Bellamy has now opted for a loan spell back in his native Wales and is to join Cardiff City.

This is indeed a major coup for the Bluebirds and one that could well aid a promotion push. Bellamy no doubt had countless offers and the chance to play for his home town club appears to be to his liking. David Jones will be hoping that the Welsh international can show the kind of form he has over the past two seasons, during which time the former Newcastle and Liverpool striker has played some of his best football.

Cardiff have had a decent start to their campaign and will hope to have the 31 year old available in time for the home match against Doncaster on the weekend.
