Liverpool have joined the race to acquire Aston Villa target, and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Niko Kranjcar.

Liverpool are now the third team to be interested in the Crotian’s services following interest by Aston Villa and Monaco. The £8m midfielder has found it difficult to keep his place in the Tottenham first team, especially after the arrival of Dutch wizard Rafael Van Der Vaart.

With Liverpool the subject of a highly covered takeover bid it is known that should the new owners (possibly NESV) take over, then cash will be made available, although NESV have not disclosed as to how much that will be. Liverpool will however be able to fund the £8m with ease regardless of any takeover and even if nothing materialises.

The Anfield club have not had the best of starts to the season and are most definitely lacking in the creative area, a position that Kranjcar would fill, and add quality to a team that look to be at a loss for ideas in the attacking areas. (

Niko Kranjcar is one of those effortless performers who you can tell instantly has a terrific (or as Harry Redknapp would say triffic) footballing brain. However the Tottenham man can not seem to get himself a regular starting spot at White Hart Lane and given the talents in the north London club’s midfield, it’s easy to see why.

The 26 year old Croatian international international is therefore looking for pastures new, although some sources say otherwise, and Roy Hodgson would clearly love to have a creative intelligent player such as Kranjcar at Anfield. A move for the former Portsmouth man becomes more likely if or indeed when, the club has successfully been taken over by NESV, or indeed any one else.

By January things may be clearer on all fronts. By then the Merseyside club may be in a better position to persuade new signings to come to the club and Kranjcar may have gotten sick of warming the bench. Either way there is no denying that he is the type of player who could able add more flair and quality to Liverpool’s attacking third and could help provide the ammunition for Torres and co, as well as being able to put away a fair few goals of his own from the midfield.
