Inter Milan are reportedly making a long-term plan to prize Lionel Messi away from Barcelona to Inter Milan .
Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport speculates that Inter president Massimo Moratti is thinking ahead and wants to bring the World Player of the Year to the San Siro.
Messi has flourished during his time at Barcelona to become the best player on the planet. However, Moratti hopes that Messi may be tempted by a change of scenery by 2013.
The main strategy to Moratti’s reported plan revolves around Argentina veteran Javier Zanetti , who has played for Inter Milan since 1995. He has also made well over 100 appearances for Argentina. By 2013, the Inter Milan stalwart will be a director at the San Siro and Moratti hopes that Zanetti can make Messi his first major signing for the club.
Messi was in Milan at the weekend, promoting a sponsorship deal and Moratti himself effectively invited the speculation by joking with Inter Milan supporters that he will bring them Messi as a gift during the January transfer window. (IMScouting)
This seems like an extremely far-fetched story coming from Italy’s Gazzetta dello Sport. The thought of Messi ever leaving Barcelona just does not seem to be realistic.
The World Player of the Year has stated on a number of occasions that he wants to spend his entire career at the Nou Camp, and despite the Italian media’s claims, it is hard to think that Javier Zanetti’s influence would be enough to lure Messi over to Italy.
Unless something drastic happens, Barcelona will not be in a position where they need to sell their star player, and would do everything they can in order to keep hold of him.
