David Moyes guided his Everton side to a well deserved win over hapless Liverpool at Goodison Park. New Anfield owners were in the stands but could not have been pleased with the very average display from Roy Hodgson’s side as they slumped to another defeat.
Tim Cahill put the home side ahead with a typically predatory finish to put the Toffees ahead and Everton were rarely troubled in the first half. The second half started with Liverpool trying their luck from range without any joy and then the killer blow arrived after 50 minutes.
The ball arrived at the feet of Mikel Arteta on the edge of a crowded penalty area and the Spaniard lashed home a quality strike to make the game safe. Liverpool had a bit more of the ball at that point but had very few clear cut openings and Everton were good value for their win which takes them storming back up the table.
Liverpool slip to second from bottom as their goal difference took them below Wolves to 19th spot in the table putting yet more pressure on Roy Hodgson.
