MANCHESTER CITY are preparing a sensational £15million bid for Sunderland’s brilliant England U-21 midfielder Jordan Henderson.
Moneybags City are plotting to raid Steve Bruce’s club during the next transfer window, but face competition from both Chelsea and Manchester United.
Henderson, 20, has emerged as one of the brightest young talents in England, possessing the passing and attacking ability that Roberto Mancini’s side lack.
City are desperate to boost their push for honours this season and think they can land the playmaker with a blockbusting January bid that the cash-conscious Black Cats might find hard to refuse.
City have already made an inquiry for the player and are likely to agree a transfer fee close to Sunderland’s £16m valuation for their homegrown star.
Henderson has enjoyed a meteoric rise in the last year, mixing it with the best in the Premier League.
He has been the key player for the England U21s, ironically keeping out Sunderland team-mate Lee Cattermole.
Henderson has also been tipped for a surprise call-up by Three Lions boss Fabio Capello for the Wembley friendly with France next month. (Sunday People)
There is no doubting the potential that Sunderland youngster Jordan Henderson possesses and his speedy climb through the ranks and into a regular starter at the Stadium of Light have led many to believe that is only a matter of time before the England Under 21 international flees for pastures new and it seems Roberto Mancini leads the chase.
However the local born midfielder would do well to bide his time rather than jumping at the chance of a move to the big money side as he could find himself lost among the crowd of international talent already at Eastlands. Steve Bruce will fight off interest in Henderson but a lot could depend on how the Black Cats fair this season.
With just one win in seven the north-east side needs to start picking up points if they want to avoid being dragged into any relegation battle that may help make Jordan’s mind up about a potential departure.
