Real Madrid To Use Karim Benzema As Bait In €57m Cash-Plus-Player Swoop For Wantaway Manchester United Star Wayne Rooney – Report
Real Madrid are ready to use Karim Benzema as bait in a €57 million cash-plus-player deal to sign Manchester United contract rebel Wayne Rooney, according to The Sun.
Rooney, 24, is understood to have rejected an extension after his relationship with manager Sir Alex Ferguson reached breaking point. He could be headed to the exit door as soon as January as he has just 18 months left on his current deal and could leave on a free transfer.
Madrid hope to tempt United into letting Rooney go by offering long-term target Benzema. The France international is on the outer with boss Jose Mourinho and was close to a €28.5m switch to Old Trafford last summer before he chose the Bernabeu. (Goal.com)
If indeed the relationship between Sir Alex Ferguson and Wayne Rooney has grown so irreparable that a sale is on the cards, then would this deal be a tempting one for the Old Trafford boss? Karim Benzema is a player that the Man United boss has courted previously and would arguably be a good replacement for the England man.
The French international may not be on a par with Rooney but that’s where the extra cash would come in to even out any potential swap deal. Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho and General Manager Jorge Valdano have distanced themselves from talk of a move for the England goal machine but they would surely be keen on such a deal if it were indeed on the table.
