Arsene Wenger is reportedly ready to make a big money move to land Atletico Madrid keeper David De Gea. The Emirates boss is looking to bring in a new first choice keeper after both Manuel Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski failed to prove themselves as viable options.
Teenager De Gea has excelled at the Vicente Calderon and has become one of the hottest properties in La Liga and has been linked with a move to Europe’s elite. Wenger is rumoured to be ready to offer up to £10m to sign the 19 year old.
The Spanish Under 21 international seems unlikely to be heading for either Spanish giants Real Madrid or Barcelona as both clubs have regular first choice keepers in Iker Casillas and Victor Valdes, both of whom are still relatively young in goalkeeping terms, which makes any move away from Spain a likelihood.
Wenger has been willing to pay large sums for teenagers in the past, having spent a total of £9.1m for Theo Walcott and an initial £4.8m for Aaron Ramsey. It is worth remembering that neither of those players had played in the top tier prior to their arrival at the Emirates whereas De Gea is in his second season as Atletico Madrid’s number one keeper.
