Former Barcelona boss Frank Rijkaard is reportedly very close to being installed as Liverpool’s new boss. Speculation is rife that Roy Hodgson will leave Anfield in the coming days and is apparently sure to be axed as early as this weekend if the club do not beat Blackburn Rovers on Sunday, with any resultant victory merely delaying the inevitable.
The Dutchman’s agent stated that no move had as yet been made for his boss but that if Rijkaard was approached that he would apparently be very interested in the job at Anfield. Odds on the former Galatasaray boss being the next Liverpool manager have dropped dramatically and he is now the clear favourite with the bookies to take over from under fire Hodgson.
The likes of Martin O’Neill and Kenny Dalglish are also strongly linked with the job but it seems that 48 year old Amsterdam born former Ajax and AC Milan midfielder is an overwhelming first choice to succeed Hodgson should he be sacked.
Rijkaard was apparently very keen to become coach at Ajax but such a move seems very unlikely given the recent success under Martin Jol who has taken the club back towards the top of the Eredivisie.
