Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is looking to sign AC Milan youngster Alexandre Pato as a direct replacement for Wayne Rooney if the England man does indeed leave the club. The San Siro starlet is apparently high up on Ferguson’s wish-list and the wily Scot hopes to lure the Brazilian to the club next summer.
Now that Rooney has made it abundantly clear he will leave Man United the search begins to find a player who can ably fill the void that will be created by the 24 year old’s exit. Any move for Pato will greatly depend on how much of any funds made from the sale will be made available to the Old Trafford boss.
Chelsea have also been strongly linked with the San Siro striker who in his fourth season at the Serie A club is still yet to secure any silverware and is apparently considering his options though a lot will depend on what new AC Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri can achieve this season.
The Italian giants brought in Zlatan Ibrahimovic on loan, with a view to a permanent deal being secured in the summer, and Robinho from Manchester City in the hopes that they can claw the title back from habitual title winners Inter Milan.
Pato has netted 40 goals in 81 league games and is valued at around £45m.
