Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is toying with the idea of making a move for Real Madrid bench warmer Karim Benzema. Having seen Robin Van Persie continue to struggle to regain full fitness and with Nicklas Bendtner similarly suffering a rash of niggling injuries the Emirates manager is looking to bring in another attacking option and may plump for a move for the Bernabeu striker.

Wenger is known to be an admirer of the 22 year old French international and attempted to land the youngster when he first burst onto the scene at Lyon. Jose Mourinho has admitted that the powerfully built attacker will struggle to get anything more than appearances from the bench which has led many to believe Benzema may on the move.

The north London club has a great deal of money available to use to further improve their squad and whilst the need to bring in a keeper and perhaps another centre back, the fact that the club continually has to count on goals coming from the midfield or wings is there for all to see. Only four of the club’s 18 Premier League goals have come from recognised strikers and this was a problem the club has last term.

Real Madrid may be happy to accept a reduced offer for Benzema as they try to cut costs at the club and some sources have stated that a fee of around £18-22m may be enough to land the striker.
