Manchester City’s forgotten man Roque Santa Cruz has emerged as an Aston Villa target for the January transfer window. The Paraguayan has stated publicly that he is looking to leave Eastlands as soon as possible and whilst he has interest in moving to Spain he would surely be tempted by a chance to prove his doubters wrong and reignite his Premier League career at Villa Park.
Gerard Houllier is reportedly a big admirer of the former Blackburn Rovers man and believes he could win the race for the 29 year old who has stagnated at the City of Manchester Stadium since his big £17.5m move in June 2009.
Roberto Mancini is thought to be ready to accept less than half what was paid for Roque Santa Cruz as he looks to cut unneeded costs from his hugely expensive squad. Aston Villa are thought to be ready to spend up to £7m for the striker who has only been handed six Premier League starts since his move to Man City.
Houllier feels his side needs sharpness up front after seeing just one of his sides goals this season coming from a recognised striker.
