Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is hoping to pull off something of a transfer coup in January as he targets a move for Roma man Mirko Vucinic. The highly rated Montenegrin has reportedly made it clear he wishes to leave the Stadio Olimpico after a horrendous start to the season which has apparently in part been down to a breakdown in relationship between Claudio Ranieri and a number of his players, including the 27 year old striker.

The former Lecce man had a fantastic season last term where his 19 goals helped the Rome side to within touching distance of a first domestic title in almost a decade. The lanky front man has been a big hit in Italy but after a decade of plying his trade in the country he may well be ready for a new challenge.

Hodgson is hoping for significant transfer funds in January to help improve his average squad in order to help them push away from the drop zone and back towards the top six. A move for Vucinic would not come cheap though as the powerfully built forward is contracted to Roma until 2013.

£16m rated Vucinic has the powerful physique that would make him an ideal player for the robust Premier League and he may well act as an ideal foil for Fernando Torres.
