Manchester United are hoping to take advantage of ructions at struggling Serie A side Roma by making a move for Italian international Daniele De Rossi. Sir Alex Ferguson has long been an admirer of the 27 year old and will look to make a move for the one club man next summer.
The tough tackling box to box midfielder is one of Ferguson’s top targets as he looks to improve his Old Trafford first team and bridge the gap to leaders Chelsea. The Man United manager has been linked with a move for De Rossi in the past and after last season’s successes, with Roma finishing last term as runners-up, it seemed that the local born talent was untouchable, but this does not appear to be the case any longer.
Claudio Ranieri has seen his side take a dramatic dip in form and find themselves a point from the relegation zone and have had a horrid start to their Champions League campaign which culminated in a shock home defeat to Basle last week.
Roma will fight hard to keep the player who has been a first team regular for eight seasons but if De Rossi was to make it clear he wanted to move on then it would be hard for the club to keep him but clearly they will ask for a big fee for the vastly experienced campaigner who is valued at around £18-22m.
