[picappgallerysingle id=”9316211″]In terrible news for fans of psychic Cephalopoda everywhere, Paul the Octopus has passed away.

The internationally recognised seer enjoyed a remarkable career – however short-lived – and though his record throughout Euro 2008 was a mere 67%, he enjoyed perfect accuracy for the 2010 World Cup.

We leave it with FIFA to recognise him in the most appropriate way – a posthumous nomination for the Ballon d’Or – as no one had such a consistently excellent World Cup as the late Paul.

Our thoughts are with his aquarium staff.
