Fulham are to make a renewed bid to sign Manchester City striker Roque Santa Cruz after he declared his intent to leave in January.

The Paraguay international has only played once for Roberto Mancini this season and now realises he must quit Eastlands.

He said: ‘Competition for places is great and I’m working every day to try and convince the coach, but I’m still not getting picked. I’m not getting the playing time to convince anybody and my priority is to leave in the January transfer market.’ (Daily Mail)

With Carlos Tevez, Mario Balotelli, Emmanuel Adebayor and Jo ahead of him in the pecking order at Manchester City – and the likes of Craig Bellamy, Vladimir Weiss and Felipe Caicedo to come back from loan – Roque Santa Cruz is finally ready to call time on his Eastlands career.

Fulham boss Mark Hughes managed the Paraguayan at Blackburn, and helped the striker enjoy one of the most successful seasons of his career on a personal level – and his remains the most likely destination.

A mooted move to Lazio at the end of the summer transfer window collapsed at the last minute, and they could yet renew their interest at the right price.

One thing is certain though: City can expect to make a substantial loss on the player they bought for £17.5m around eighteen months ago.
