Uefa have awarded Italy a 3-0 win after their Euro 2012 qualifier against Serbia was abandoned due to crowd trouble.

Serbia have been told they must play two games behind closed doors, with one match suspended, while Italy were handed a suspended sentence of one game behind closed doors.

The match in Genoa earlier this month was called off after only six minutes as travelling Serbia fans threw flares and fireworks onto the pitch.

The kick-off had already been delayed by 35 minutes after pre-match clashes between visiting supporters and Italian police.

There were a number of arrests and more than a dozen supporters and police were taken to hospital.

The Serbian Football Association had asked Uefa for the game to be replayed, but the Italian Football Federation rejected that possibility out of hand.

Uefa have now ruled at a disciplinary hearing into the trouble that Italy should be awarded a 3-0 victory. (Sky Sports)

I wonder what happens to those people who bet on a 3-0 win? Does this count? If so, expect many people to bet on the return match in Serbia to be a 3-0 win also. Can anyone explain why Italy were handed a suspended sentence following the riots in Genoa? Was it due to their inability to police the away fans or some other reason I am not aware of?
