Liverpool misfit Alberto Aquilani says he feels at home playing for Juventus.
The 26-year-old is on a season-long loan in Turin after failing to live up to expectations with the Reds following his £20million move from Roma.
The midfielder says he is loving life back in Serie A with the Turin giants, who have an option to make the move permanent next summer.
He told La Stampa: “I like the team. I like Turin. I have found a home. I am happy.” (Sky Sports)
So basically reading between the really big lines, Alberto Aquilani really does not want to come back to Anfield. The Italian international’s move to Liverpool was one of several nails in the Rafa Benitez coffin, the deal that appeared to make little sense from the outset was further compounded by a strange attitude from the club’s former boss. In a nutshell this is what happened.
Rafa Benitez paid £20m to Roma for Alberto Aquilani, albeit a lot of it tied up in increments based on appearances and achievements. However the midfielder had a serious injury to get over, thus making such a move something of an expensive risk. After months out on the sidelines Rafa gave the player his first Premier League start on Boxing day, more than four months after he was purchased.
However the next twist defied reason. A fully fit Aquilani actually showed glimpses of what he was capable of, then inexplicably it seemed that Benitez didn’t rate him very much any more. As a result he started just nine Premier League matches.
Bizarre to say the least. Juventus will almost certainly take up the option to make the loan move permanent.
