Liverpool are preparing a £9 million January move for Wigan Athletic’s in-form French winger Charles N’Zogbia, according to The People.
The former Newcastle United man has been in brilliant form of late, the high point of which being his two goals against the Magpies at St James’ Park.
N’Zogbia initially fell out of favour with boss Roberto Martinez at the start of the new season after expressing his desire to move away from the DW Stadium but has started each of the Latics’ last six Premier League games.
Roy Hodgson has already expressed his desire to improve his squad in the January transfer window and could see N’Zogbia as an ideal target as the Anfield club look to move away from the relegation zone. (Goal.com)
There is a reason that Charles N’Zogbia is always considered a player who could hit the big time but then ends up at Wigan (no offence) and that reason is, the Frenchman isn’t very good. He is not bad, just pretty average. He would like to think that he is using the Latics as some sort of stepping stone but in reality he will not secure a move upwards from the DW Stadium.
Whilst Roy Hodgson may well be looking for more natural width and a player who can help add creativity and feed Fernando Torres, that player should not really be the former Newcastle United man. This is a man who was set to join Birmingham City but then at the last moment demanded a huge pay increase on a deal that he had appeared to agree. The fact that Alex McLeish baulked at such behaviour should say it all.
Ryan Babel is a better, most consistent, effective performer and that speaks volumes.
