Pep Guardiola is reportedly looking to nab Arsenal left back Gael Clichy in the summer as he looks for a replacement for French veteran Eric Abidal. The Emirates full back has not been in the best of form this season and Arsene Wenger already appears to have a ready made alternative in young England international Kieran Gibbs.
Wenger brought Clichy to the north London club in 2003 and after an initial battle with Ashley Cole for the left back spot the former Cannes man has been the first choice starter for the Gunners for the best part of five years. The French international has now racked up over 200 appearances for the club but has found himself the object of much speculation of late.
Barcelona have of course been chasing Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas for a prolonged period of time and have done so in a manner that has not pleased Arsene Wenger and the strained relationship between the two clubs may harm the chances of a deal being struck but that doesn’t appear to bother the Catalan club who appear very keen to sign the Toulouse born 25 year old.
