Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is rumoured to be considering a move for young Ajax pair Gregory van der Wiel and Siem do Jong. The Dutch international duo are considered two of the hottest prospects in Dutch football and have both been linked with a move away from the cash strapped Amsterdam side.
Many believe that the Old Trafford supremo is looking to rejuvenate the club by building up a new generation of talent that can take the baton from the older more established members of Ferguson’s side who are moving towards the end of their glittering careers.
Gregory van der Wiel impressed many with his performances at the World Cup and has a good grounding of top level experience for a player of his age, he could be seen as an ideal successor for Gary Neville with Brazilian youngster Rafael still to prove himself as a consistent performer. The 22 year old has also been linked with a move to both Chelsea and Arsenal. Siem de Jong is an attacking midfielder with an eye for goal and won his first senior cap against Ukraine in August and is an exciting prospect.
Given the financial problems Martin Jol finds himself having to deal with, Ajax may feel it more acceptable to allow the likes of van der Wiel and de Jong to leave rather than lose more established stars like Maarten Stekelenburg and Luis Suarez.
The pair are valued at a combined fee of around £22m.
