COS columnist Danny Webber brings you the low down on life as a professional footballer.
Danny submitted his latest column before last night’s match with QPR, which ended in an entertaining draw at Fratton Park.
Hi everyone, right, let’s get the weekend result out of the way first… We were beaten at Derby by a good young side but I’m sure that’s just a blip in our progress. We’ve been on a good run of 7 games where we were unbeaten, having won 6 and drawn 1. The statto’s amongst you will also know that was the club’s best run of results since the 2002/03 season. All in all, it was a disappointing result but I’m sure we’ll pick ourselves up and continue with the level of performance and commitment we’ve had prior to Saturday. With another game on Tuesday against the league leaders QPR, it’s a good opportunity for us to bounce back!
I’d like to welcome Neil Warnock who I previously played under at Sheffield United to Fratton Park for Tuesday night’s game. I had some good years playing under him at Sheffield United, in particular winning promotion to the premiership. He’s a good man manager which he’s proved throughout the years and the way he’s currently got QPR playing is testament to that although I don’t wish him too much fortune at Fratton Park against us.
In the football world this week I couldn’t let the week pass without singling out Gareth Bale’s last few performances which have been a joy to watch. He is an outstanding player and its no wonder his name has been linked with Europe’s finest clubs. Also it was good to see Ji-Sung Park grab a couple of crucial goals for Manchester United in typical United Fashion with their never say die attitude.
What else? Well following my debut piece last week, I was asked numerous questions about the football boots I wear… Throughout my career I’ve always opted for comfort as my main priority but I’d say on a par with that is the style of the boot. I wear Concave PT Classics and I’ve always been a sucker for white boots. Check the website for all the different designs and players currently becoming a part of the ‘Concave‘ movement.

On a personal note, this week’s been quite productive… I’ve been working hard in the gym as always and even engaged in a little bit of extra curricular activity in the form of Trick or Treating with my daughter. After buying the outfit, dressing up and braving the cold, she’d had enough after visiting 4 houses having been given the biggest selection of chocolates, sweets and coins to last her till 2012. Gone are the days when we were kids and we had to split our last rolo with every kid on the estate.
