Wenger wants to bring PSG defender to the Emirates.
Arsene Wenger could be ready to add to his clutch of France international centre-backs at Arsenal as the London club are closely following the progress of Paris Saint-Germain’s Mamadou Sakho, according to a report from Le Parisien on Saturday.
Sakho has long been tipped as a player with a future at one of Europe’s elite clubs and has plenty of first team experience with PSG, despite only being 20-years-old. A physically imposing defender standing at 6ft 2in, he has already passed 100 competitive appearances since making his debut as captain at the age of 17. (Goal.com)
Arsene Wenger has been chasing PSG starlet Mamadou Sakho for the best part of two years and now appears ready to make a significant bid for the £12m rated 20 year old. The young defender has been a first team regular at the Parc des Princes for three seasons and has helped them this season to improve on last term’s poor 13th place finish but the French Under 21 international has made it clear he sees his future elsewhere.
The Arsenal boss is not convinced by his current crop of defenders and seeing as the north London club has conceded more than double the amount of goals that Chelsea have, he may have good reason to want another defensive option.
Laurent Koscielny has shown himself to be able to put in a good performance but is not the most consistent player and his two sendings off both occurred as a result of poor positional sense. Sebastien Squillaci at 30 is not a long term solution and with Johann Djourou still not converting his undoubted potential into quality displays, a new defender may well be needed.
Though the club also has Thomas Vermaelen to count on Wenger has stated that he needs more choices at the back and the fact that Sakho can also ply his trade at left back may help his chances of sealing a Gunners move.
