Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer could be on his way out of beleaguered Bundesliga side Schalke as Premier League side Liverpool have shown an interest in signing the shot stopper, according to a report in The Telegraph.
Liverpool are in the market for a new shot stopper because of the ongoing uncertainty about the future of Pepe Reina and manager Roy Hodgson reportedly sees the 24-year-old Neuer as the perfect replacement should Reina leave the club.
Neuer is a product of the Schalke youth academy and has developed into a key player at the Koenigsblauen since making his official debut in August 2006. The glovesman has so far made well over 100 league appearances for the Gelsenkirchen side. (Goal.com)
Worth noting that this report comes from Goal.com and not us, and indeed Pepe Reina has clarified his future at Anfield but this source believes a move for German international Manuel Neuer is on the cards. The Schalke keeper has been linked with a move to both Arsenal and Man United, both of whom have keeper issues of their own to resolve.
The 24 year old German international had a great World Cup and has put in some sterling displays for his club this season despite their horrendous start to the campaign. The £10m rated goalie seems likely to leave the Gelsenkirchen if they do not turn their season around and interest from Bayern Munich may be a more likely move for the quality goalie.
