Manchester United will reportedly make a big money bid to sign Tottenham youngster Gareth Bale next summer. Sir Alex Ferguson has been promised significant funds to improve his squad and the Old Trafford boss will offer up to £40m for the Welshman and will offer the choice of a selection of United players to sweeten any deal.

Gareth Bale has been in great form this season and has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane as a result and the likes of Inter Milan and Chelsea are said to be ready to pounce but Ferguson hopes he can secure the signing of the 20 year old wing back.

The former Southampton man may find it hard to not be tempted by a move to Manchester United and the possibility of such a deal becoming a reality will increase if the north London club does not secure a spot in the coveted top four and Harry Redknapp knows he has a battle on his hands to keep Bale at the club.

Ferguson has been given assurances by the club’s owners that he will be able to spend as he pleases next summer and the Glazers made similar promises to Wayne Rooney as the striker looked to the club to prove it’s ambitions.

A number of players are said to be on the table in relation to being offered as part exchange for Bale with the likes of Michael Carrick, Anderson and Michael Owen being the most prominent, however if that fails then a record breaking offer of around £40m may be made for the Tottenham man, an offer the club may feel they have to accept if the player signals his intentions to leave.

A move for Gareth Bale may become even more pressing if, as reported by some sources, French left back Patrice Evra leaves the club.
