Manchester United are to join Arsenal in a race to sign Republic of Ireland international Shay Given. The current Man City stopper has not had the best of times at Manchester City and despite his obvious talent, has remained on the substitutes bench for the vast majority this year.
Given has made no secret that he is unhappy at the Eastlands club, and City boss Roberto Mancini has also given his blessing should the Irishman wish to leave in January.
For Given there will be numerous options although the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal will be keeping closer tabs on the situation than others.
United are still on the search for a replacement for Van der Saar, and although he does not fit into the young talent bracket, Sir Alex Ferguson may look to make an exception where the goalkeeper is concerned. (Footylatest.com)
Would Roberto Mancini really allow Shay Given to join their arch rivals and near neighbours, I would have thought not, but this source believes this to be the case. The Irish international is clearly too good a keeper to be sitting on the bench twiddling his thumbs but it seems clear that Man City will only allow the 33 year old to leave for a club who are not considered direct rivals, hence the likes of Fulham and Celtic being more likely destinations for the former Newcastle United man.
Do City or United fans believe this deal could ever come to pass, and if so, how do you feel about it?
