Fulham are reportedly prepared to hand Tottenham Hotspur outcast David Bentley a lifeline by offering to take him on loan in January.

The 26-year-old midfielder has seen precious little Premier League action this season, making only two appearances so far – one of them as a substitute.

But Bentley enjoyed a successful time during a two-year stint at Blackburn Rovers before joining Spurs. And at Blackburn the right-sided player’s manager was current Cottagers boss Mark Hughes.

Now The News of the World reports that Fulham intend to return to try and capture their target, having missed out on his signature during the summer.

It is thought that Rafael van der Vaart’s arrival delayed Bentley’s potential departure, which could take place in the upcoming transfer window. (

Mark Hughes has always been a big fan of David Bentley, and this move would seem to make sense for both the player and both clubs. Bentley has never convinced current boss Harry Redknapp that he is worthy of a first team place, despite costing the club £15million over two years ago.

Bentley enjoyed his best form when playing under Mark Hughes at Blackburn Rovers, and would surely jump at the chance of getting his career back on track under his old boss at Fulham.
