Mick McCarthy this afternoon confirmed that Karl Henry will be ruled out for an estimated two months with a medial knee ligament injury.
The Wolves captain picked up the injury during Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Blackpool and was substituted on the hour mark at Bloomfield Road.
Further assessment has revealed the extent of the problem which will see Henry join the clutch of Wolves players currently on the sidelines.
“Karl is out for two months with medial knee ligament damage,” said Mick.
“He’s had a scan and I think there’s a slight tear.
“It’s a huge blow, especially with Dave Edwards out with a thigh strain.
“Karl’s been great and has been an ever-present unless he’s been injured – and the injuries he’s had have been serious, with his knee and a damaged spleen. It’s a big loss.” (Wolverhampton Wanderers Official Website)
Wolverhampton Wanderers skipper Karl Henry has had his fair share of bad press this season, after breaking Fulham striker Bobby Zamora’s leg and performing fairly horrendous tackles on the likes of Wigan Athletic player Jordi Gomez, but perhaps some time away from the media glare will aid him.
Wolves have a pretty bad reputation – not least because of their skipper’s aggression – and currently sit second bottom in the Premier League disciplinary table – as well as the actual league table.
Though Henry’s absence is doubtlessly a big blow for the team, it gives Mick McCarthy’s side an opportunity to gain headlines for their football.
They certainly could do with some positive ones at the moment.
