Having spent the previous weekend in Auxerre to attend the victory of AJA against Rennes (2-1), Roy Hodgson was again in France on Sunday to attend another game in Ligue 1.

The Liverpool coach this time chose a match in Northern France where he attended Sunday’s victory for Lille against Monaco (2-1).

The Englishman is believed to have come to watch Gervinho, with Laurent Viaud, Reds scout. Asked at the end of the game, he suggested that the Ivorian was not the only good player on the pitch. (L’Equipe)

Gervinho was one of the stars of the Ivory Coast team during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, and his pace and skills on the flank made him an excellent asset for the Elephants.

Hodgson and his scouts have clearly identified a need for these attributes at Anfield and have scouted potential signings at every opportunity – often in France, where Damien Comolli was recently based.

While it seems his aim was to watch Gervinho, it would seem that from his statement after the game that he may have unearthed another gem elsewhere.
