ROBERT PIRES will be driven 250 miles a day to and from training with Aston Villa.

Pires insists he will go the extra mile for his new club but will not move to Birmingham.

The Frenchman, 37, will remain in London and use a chauffeur to reach the Midlands.

Pires turned down a move to US side Philadelphia in May as it was not a ‘beautiful city’ – before switching to Villa.

The ex-Arsenal winger said: “There are players who do the journey by helicopter – I’m lucky enough to do it by car with a chauffeur but it doesn’t bother anyone here.

“This proves there is a really open mentality here and it doesn’t inconvenience me, either. Every morning I leave at 8am and by 9.30, or 9.45, I’m at the training ground and have time to get ready, to train and I have the best conditions possible.”

Pires has signed a six-month deal to ease Villa’s injury crisis – making his debut as a 68th-minute sub in Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Blackburn.

Villa, 13th and only three points above the drop zone, face Arsenal on Saturday.

Pires said: “It will be strange as I recently trained for two months with them and played for several years there.

“But I’m wearing new colours and I’m ready.” (The Sun)

As long as he doesn’t have to travel on the team coach that is…
