Manchester United are to rival Bayern Munich in the pursuit of young Croatian midfielder Dino Spehar.
The 16-year-old became the youngest player to appear in the Croatian Premier League when he made his debut recently for Osijek in front of United scouts who had been monitoring Dinamo Zagreb’s defender Sime Vrsjalko.
Spehar’s performances for Croatia U17s have also alerted Bayern who have already contacted the players’ representatives. (Daily Mail)
Dino Spehar is of footballing blood. His father, Robert Spehar, played for teams such as Monaco, Sporting Lisbon and Galatasaray, as well as earning eight caps for Croatia.
The younger Spehar could be an even better prospect though.
“He scored three goals in two matches against Bulgaria and Israel [for Croatia U17s] earlier this month and Bayern Munich approached us only two days later,” said Robert Spehar about his son.
“However, I don’t think Dino’s ready to move to a club like Bayern just yet.”
“He is already being tracked by Manchester United and Bayern Munich, but one thing is for sure. He will not leave Osijek until he finishes high school,” Spehar senior said.
Dino Spehar is not looking for a transfer to a big European side immediately either, given how young he is.
“I’m not thinking too much about that right now,” he said to Croatian newspaper Jutarnji List recently.
“I know that I’m still very young and have to work hard to be good enough to play outside my country.”
