Thiago Silva believes that fellow AC Milan defender Alessandro Nesta is currently playing in his last campaign for the Italian club.

“I feel bad for Nesta because I believe this will be his last season here,” said the Brazilian to SportItalia.

“I will be very sad if he leaves us.”

Nesta is 34 now, and Thiago Silva is not specific about whether he is about to retire or consider a move away.

However, despite the famed Milan Lab that has increased the longevity of countless players careers – notably fellow centre halves Alessandro Costacurta and Paolo Maldini – talks about a contract extension have yet to materialise.

This has meant the Italian stalwart has begun to consider his options, with a move to either the Premier League or the United States’ MLS on the cards.

Plenty of English clubs could benefit from the signing of a player widely regarded as the best central defender of the last decade, who still turns in excellent performances in the UEFA Champions League. He was part of the Milan team that kept a clean sheet away at Auxerre on Tuesday.

However, there is a suspicion that the Italian will move to the United States, as he regularly holidays there and owns a property in Miami.

Would you take him at your club?
