Manchester United are planning to make summer moves to sign Aston Villa youngster Ciaran Clark and Blackburn Rovers defender Phil Jones. Sir Alex Ferguson is looking to bring in new additions to help build up a new generation of talent at Old Trafford as a number of his current crop of first teamers move towards the tail end of their careers.

Ferguson is said to be an admirer of the England Under 21 pair and hopes to persuade both to move to the Premier League giants when the season comes to a close. The Man United boss has already stated that he does not feel the need to bring in players in January but is looking to strengthen his squad and plan for the future with moves for the talented young duo.

Ciaran Clark has been a mature performer at Villa Park this season at both centre back and as a defensive midfielder and the London born 21 year old has become an important part of Gerard Houllier’s first team plans. Phil Jones has shown assuredness well beyond his age and the 18 year old has attracted attention from a number of top clubs and could be seen as a long term successor to the likes of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.

Ferguson showed in the summer that he is cautiously looking to sign young up and coming talent instead of spending vast sums on established stars as he brought in the likes of Chris Smalling and Javier Hernandez.
