England’s bid has been ranked as the most profitable of all of those bidding for the 2018 World Cup.

The latest report has been compiled by Fifa consultants McKinsey, who have analysed a number of sectors, and it transpires that England would meet 100 per cent profitability in every area.

That compares to Spain & Portugal on 91 per cent, Belgium & Holland at 87 per cent and Russia on 86 per cent.

England’s bid leader Andy Anson is pleased with the report, which comes as a welcome boost to English hopes.

“Fifa gave us a very strong technical evaluation,” confirmed Anson.

“Fifa have now had an economic study and England comes out way ahead of its competitors in that study, and we clearly have the strongest bid for 2018 — it’s the perfect foundation.” (BBC Sport)

So yet more evidence that England are the perfect choice to host the 2018 World Cup, will that mean anything to the FIFA delegates? One hopes so but cynicism runs deep in COS Towers. The fact that their own consultants have made it clear that England would be the most profitable selection should of course add more fuel to the fire behind the bid but we continue to cross our fingers and hope!
