Stephen Ireland is ready for crunch talks this week to sort out his future at Aston Villa.

Midfielder Ireland, 24, has struggled to make an impact at Villa since joining as a makeweight in James Milner’s £26million summer switch to Manchester City.

Despite Villa’s injury crisis, Ireland has started just three games in the Premier League under new boss Gerard Houllier, who also blasted him in public.

Now Ireland and his representative are meeting club officials to determine whether he stays or goes on the transfer list in January. (Daily Mirror)

With Gerard Houllier reportedly ready to allow Stephen Ireland to leave Villa Park just a few short months since his arrival from Manchester City, both Liverpool and Newcastle United are said to be considering a move to snap up the talented playmaker. The new Aston Villa manager doesn’t appear to see the 24 year old as part of his first team plans and would prefer to cash in on his services rather than keep an unhappy player at the club.

Roy Hodgson was said to have been interested in Ireland before he became part of the deal that saw James Milner move to Eastlands and Chris Hughton is keen on bringing in more creative options after losing Hatem Ben Arfa who has a long term injury.

There is no doubting the attacking ability the Cork born midfield possesses but some question his attitude and his falling out with Houllier is sure to put paid to his long term prospects at Aston Villa.
