Ray Wilkins has expressed his relief after finalising his settlement with Chelsea.
The former Blues midfielder was surprisingly sacked as Carlo Ancelotti’s No 2 last month.
He has been negotiating a pay-off with the Barclays Premier League champions and has now come to a resolution.

He said: ‘It has obviously been a big wrench leaving such an illustrious club and one which has played such a huge role in my playing and coaching career.
‘I have great affection for the club, the staff, the players and its supporters and wish them all the very best for the remainder of this season and the future.
‘I would also like to thank the club and the League Managers Association for ensuring that matters have been brought to a swift and harmonious conclusion.’
LMA chief executive Richard Bevan said: ‘All parties are delighted that an agreement has been reached in a cordial and professional manner. I am sure that a manager of Ray’s experience will be back involved in a managerial or coaching capacity soon.’ (Daily Mail)

Whilst Chelsea and Ray Wilkins will be happy to have resolved their differences there will still be many followers of the west London club who will wonder why such an issue ever arose. The manner in which the former assistant manager was treated was abominable and the decision will surely have had some impact on the club as a whole and the fact that the Blues have suffered a major drop in form since the much admired Wilkins left is surely not a coincidence.

Carlo Ancelotti has intimated that he had nothing to do with the decision to not renew his number 2’s contract but if this is the case then surely that is a worrying state of affairs. There is no doubt that Ray Wilkins will get back into the game soon enough and will be of benefit to another club before too long.
