Having been a regular under Mark Hughes, Mancini’s predecessor, Bridge has been hampered by knee, hamstring and groin injuries that have restricted him to 16 appearances during the Italian’s reign.

And Mancini admits that Bridge’s chequered fitness record has contributed to him becoming a peripheral figure at Eastlands.
Mancini said: “At the end of the Lech Poznan game [Nov 4], Wayne was injured, but now, over the last three or four days, he is available.
“It’s very difficult if a player is always injured. It’s very difficult that he can play. It depends on him as he’s always injured and he can’t finish [games]. If he’s available, he is part of the group, but he has been unlucky.
“He started in the first game in Salzburg [Sept 16] and, after 70 minutes, he was injured. He played in Poznan and after 70 minutes he got injured. It’s impossible that he can play.
“But every time he was available, he played. If he’s available this week, then maybe.”
Bridge has completed just one game this season – the 3-2 win at Blackpool in October – but Mancini insists that his frailty is not a psychological problem.
“No, it’s a physical problem.” Mancini said. “Always hamstring or groin, but this is a problem for all players, not only for Wayne. If he’s available, he is part of our group.” (Telegraph)

Given that Roberto Mancini has three top quality players for every position the fact that Wayne Bridge is always injured doesn’t appear to be affecting Manchester City too much. It seems quite possible that the Eastlands left back will be one of a number of players who could be on his way in January as the club looks to cut costs ahead of possible new additions to the City of Manchester Stadium squad.

The former Chelsea and Southampton man faces stiff competition for his spot with the likes of Alexander Kolarov being brought in over the summer to fight for the full back spot among many other potential defensive options Mancini has to hand.
