Liverpool defender Daniel Agger has rejected talk that he could leave the club in January.
Reports have suggested Agger could be on his way out of Anfield in the New Year with German side Wolfsburg credited with an interest in the centre-half.
However, Agger, who is recovering from a calf injury, insists he has no plans to leave Liverpool and that he will not be forced out of the club.
“Liverpool can’t force me out of the club even if they want to as I have got four years left on my contract,” Agger told Jyllands-Posten.
“I find it strange that people who don’t know anything shout everything possible.
“I expect Roy Hodgson to have the guts to tell me face to face if he doesn’t want me and he hasn’t said that.” (Sky Sports)
With no suggestion from Roy Hodgson that he plans to sell the Denmark international, this seems a rather peculiar outburst.
Agger was linked with a reunion with former boss Rafa Benitez at Inter Milan last month after Walter Samuel was ruled out for the season, but the Dane’s own calf injury has kept him out of action for the long term as well.
Agger is close to making a highly anticipated return, and with Jamie Carragher ruled out for up to three months, he will be a welcome presence in the Liverpool defence.
The 25 year-old offers something unique amongst Liverpool’s defenders, which is to carry the ball from deep into midfield, as well as excellent passing accuracy.
Liverpool will be glad he plans to stay on their books.
