The Brazilian would be free to talk to the Anfield club in January.

Ronaldinho reportedly has two games with which to impress AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri; otherwise he is free to leave the club.

It is ironic that while the 2002 World Cup winner was generally in good form last season, he was dropped from the Brazil squad by then-manager Dunga, but now he is struggling to get a place in the AC Milan side, he is again called upon by Brazil.

New Selecao boss Mano Menezes started Ronaldinho against Argentina in their recent friendly – which Brazil lost to a late Lionel Messi goal, and the recalled playmaker showed glimpses of the magic he is capable of.

He is undoubtedly capable of the brilliant, and frequently made people gasp in sheer disbelief during his peak years at Barcelona, but question marks remain over his professionalism.

However, let’s play devil’s advocate for a second.

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson needs someone who can unlock defences, who can play anywhere in midfield, and who would be available on the cheap.

Now we’re not suggesting that this will happen, or that there has been any progress to a move, but with AC Milan likely to make him available on a free transfer, would Liverpool be the perfect fit for Ronaldinho?

And would it be too good an opportunity to pass up to get a former World Player Of The Year for free?
