Javier Pastore has fuelled talk of a move to England by ruling out a transfer Spanish giants Real Madrid or Barcelona – despite also being heavily linked with Chelsea and Manchester City.

“To speak about Real Madrid, Barcelona or Napoli makes no sense for me at the moment,” he told Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

A further statement in the interview suggested that he would not consider a move until the summer though:

“I am only thinking about [Palermo] and qualifying for next season’s Champions League, which is a target we are certainly capable of meeting,” said the Argentina international.

This is surely a loaded statement.

Should Palermo not reach the UEFA Champions League next season, Pastore would then have already made his excuse to leave.

He wouldn’t come cheap though – with up to £35m likely to be needed to secure one of the hottest prospects in Europe.
