Manchester City are preparing a €70 million bid for Barcelona midfield maestro Andres Iniesta , according to sources cited by the German 4-4-2 Web site.
Barcelona would be desperate to hold onto the player who has just made the three-man shortlist for the 2010 FIFA World Player of the Year award.

But Manchester City presumably believe that with Barcelona’s financial situation far from being healthy, they can persuade the Nou Camp club to part ways with the 26-year-old with a massive bid.

Iniesta is contracted to Barcelona until 2015. (IMScouting)

It’s been a while since Man City made a mindless move for an untouchable player but they appear to have made up for lost time with this one. Last summer there were rumours of moves for John Terry, Fernando Torres et al but instead Roberto Mancini cleverly purchased top notch players who had either outgrown their clubs (David Silva, James Milner, Adam Johnson) or were not getting the first team opportunities they felt they deserved (Mario Balotelli, Yaya Toure) or are just players who were not happy at their clubs (Carlos Tevez, Emmanuel Adebayor).

The chances of a) Andres Iniesta leaving Barcelona and b) leaving Spain are just minute to say the least. If you were a regular at Barcelona, would you leave? For anyone? Seems very very unlikely to say the least.
