Fifa executive committee member Franz Beckenbauer says England were “treated disgracefully” in the World Cup bidding process.

The German, who will leave his post as an executive committee member next year, believes England, along with the other six losing nations, were not dealt with well by Fifa.

He told Bild: “I am disappointed with the way Fifa dealt with the result. The seven losing countries were treated disgracefully, particularly England and Australia.

“All of us exco [executive committee] members were told ahead of the ballot that neither we nor the public would ever know the exact number of votes for each country. After each round of voting we were told only which country had been ruled out. Then, a few hours later, I was hearing from journalists what the exact voting had been.
“It’s certainly affected my confidence in Fifa.” (Goal.com)

It is good to see Franz Beckenbauer showing his disgust at the goings on in Zurich earlier this month and in fact it is good to see any FIFA Committee Member expressing concern at the way the World Football governing body does its business and one can only hope that such statements are followed with tough actions.

As it seems that outside pressure will not matter a jot to those on FIFA’s Executive Committee, the only way change will be affected is if some among those in positions of power elect to force through measures to at least give the impression that a fair and democratic process is being used to make crucial footballing decisions that affect the entire global game.

Clearly the removal of bigoted president Sepp Blatter would be a good step in the right direction and perhaps Der Kaiser would be keen to take over from the inept Swiss crazy man?
