Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has asked the club’s management to redouble their efforts to try and land Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez in January, according to the Mexican Web site.

Gonzalo Higuain’s injury and the apparent lack of faith of Karim Benzema has left Mourinho short up-front, and although Los Blancos have been linked with moves for VfL Wolfsburg hit-man Edin Dzeko and Athletic Bilbao front-man Fernando Llorente , Hernandez is said to be the coach’s preferred target.

Real’s interest in Hernandez was first reported last month. However, it would be an audacious effort to even try and land the Mexican. Ferguson snapped up the 22-year-old from Chivas Guadalajara before the World Cup, and he has adapted well to his new club, scoring a total of five goals in the Premier League and Champions League so far. One can understand why Jose Mourinho would be interested in the Old Trafford star but the chances of the Real Madrid boss pulling off such a purchase are slim to none. The Mexican has shown in patches what he is capable of and Sir Alex Ferguson will be pleasantly surprised to see the 22 year old already maturing into a Premier League hot shot some time earlier than he would have imagined.

It seems that Man United are planning to rebuild their Old Trafford side and have made a number of interesting signings over the past year that should help the club deal with those members of the side who are entering the autumns of their glittering careers.

Hernandez is very much part of Sir Alex’s long term plans and as such he will do all he can to fend off interest but that being said, we all know how Real Madrid have used the club as something of a shopping centre in the past.
