Speculation is rife that Arsenal may indeed have a few comings and goings at the Emirates this January. Italian side Roma are keen to strengthen their squad after an average start to the campaign and have earmarked a move for utility man Emmanuel Eboue. Whilst at the same time Arsene Wenger’s hopes to bring in another centre back have been helped by the announcement that Werder Bremen defender Per Mertesacker wants to leave the Bundesliga.

Ivorian Eboue has his fair share of critics during his five years at the club but has still garnered something of a cult hero status at the club and his ability to effectively fill a number of positions interests Claudio Ranieri and apparently a bid of £5m would secure the services of the 27 year old.

Vastly experienced German international giant Per Mertesacker was linked with a move to the Gunners in the summer but at the time the solid centre back was happy to stay at Werder Bremen in the hopes that they would challenge for the title but after last season’s third place finish Thomas Schaaf’s side have started this campaign poorly and they currently sit in 12th place and following the loss of Mesut Ozil to Real Madrid it appears the club is moving backwards and not forwards.

A source close to the player has stated in a recent interview that the 6ft 6in 26 year old would like to move and is predominantly interested in a move abroad with the Premier League apparently being his preferred location.
